Final Post

As the semester is coming to a close and we are all hopefully completing our final hours of placement I wanted to take some time to make a post about a few things I have learned during this industry experience course.  Working with show horses has taught me a lot of things, and all though I didn't complete all of the goals I set out for myself I feel as though I have learned a great deal of things.  The main skills I have learned from this placement have been, how to stay organized in stressful situations and how to work as a team. The horse shows can get quite busy and hectic especially on Fridays. Fridays are the big day for ponies, and in order to show a pony you must be under 18 years old, we had a few children who were ages that range from 5-9. Keeping them organized and getting them to where they should be sometimes was quite the challenge. I got really good at managing my time as well. I was given a few different tasks to complete through out the day that I nee...

As we are coming close to the end of the semester I have found I am doing less at my placement, since I already have reached the 64 hours I haven't really been doing a whole lot there since I have so many other things going on in my life right now, with final assignments coming due and exams to study for. I did however get to work a day where we competed in a costume class with the kids and their ponies. I thought it was going to be just a fun little class that the kids did, but I was very wrong. Even though it was just a costume class, everyone went all out and there were some really cool costumes. The class was separated into teams of three and the teams had to have a matching theme. Since we have so many kids we had a few different teams. We had the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe as one team. Another team dressed up as "pretty in pink". There were teams from other barns that were pretty neat too. This one team dressed up as the incredibles, and it was super hot ou...
Hey guys! hope everyone has been having fun at their placements and hopefully getting close to getting all their hours done! I have officially finished 64 hours at my placement and I plan on doing more. I got the opportunity to travel to a horse show in Guelph for 3 days which was super fun! I even got to go watch one of the grand prix classes and sit at a VIP table which was a very cool experience as I have never done that before! I am learning so much! I was wondering how many of you will continue to work at your placements when you are done, or will any of you do your placement at the same location when it comes time to do have industry experience in the fourth semester? I feel like even though I have very much enjoyed this placement I would like to do my second industry placement somewhere more directly fitness related! Word Count: 163
