Final Post
As the semester is coming to a close and we are all hopefully completing our final hours of placement I wanted to take some time to make a post about a few things I have learned during this industry experience course.
Working with show horses has taught me a lot of things, and all though I didn't complete all of the goals I set out for myself I feel as though I have learned a great deal of things.
The main skills I have learned from this placement have been, how to stay organized in stressful situations and how to work as a team. The horse shows can get quite busy and hectic especially on Fridays. Fridays are the big day for ponies, and in order to show a pony you must be under 18 years old, we had a few children who were ages that range from 5-9. Keeping them organized and getting them to where they should be sometimes was quite the challenge. I got really good at managing my time as well. I was given a few different tasks to complete through out the day that I needed to get done in order to be finished for the day. If I decided I wanted to work a little slower at completing tasks that just meant I might have to stay longer then expected. I think this is a valuable lesson because not all jobs will be set hours, and especially in the fitness industry.
Looking back on my placement I may not have learned as much about the fitness industry as others with placements at gyms would have, I still think all of the skills I gained when It comes to organization and teamwork will still be valuable in my future career.

HI Josie! I am happy to read that you have learned so much at your placement! Just because you did not meet all of your set goals does not mean you did not learn anything! I know where you are coming from when you say pony day is hectic! Speaking from experience I was always in the wrong place at the wrong time and it is definitely a great opportunity to learn how to manage your time. And remember just because your placement was not like everyone else's that does not mean you are not going to learn as much, and your goals can be accomplished easier now that you have learned about better time management.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog throughout the semester to see how your placement went and what you learned!
